Pogba issues Benzema warning as Man Utd star speaks on France’s Euro 2020 hopes

Paul Pogba believes the addition of Karim Benzema to the French squad makes them a more formidable outfit.

France won the World Cup in Russia three years ago but the Manchester United midfielder is now confident that they have improved further.

Benzema spent more than five years out in the cold under Didier Deschamps following his role in a sex-tape scandal.

Now though the Real Madrid star has returned and will further strengthen a frontline that already includes Kylian Mbappe, Olivier Giroud and Antoine Griezmann.

It leaves Pogba in no doubt that Les Blues are now even stronger than in 2018.

Karim Benzema has returned to the France squad

He said: “For sure we have a group of world class players and we added another big weapon, Karim Benzema.

“Everybody knows it. For sure with Karim Benzema the team automatically becomes stronger (than the 2018 World Cup).”

France will have to negotiate the group of death with Germany and Portugal for company.

In the last European Championships the French fell at the final hurdle as Portugal won 1-0 at the Stade de France.

Now though Pogba and co are looking to consolidate themselves as the world’s elite nation.

The United star himself is having to juggle his international duties with an uncertain club future.

Where will Pogba be playing next season? Have your say below.

His Old Trafford contract continues to wind down as talks begin between himself and United regarding an extension.

Mino Raiola has previously tried to manufacture a Red Devils exit and claimed his client was “unhappy” in Manchester last year.

Juventus and Real Madrid have both been linked with the 28-year-old over the years but PSG are the latest destination to be touted.

Pogba was teased about moving to Paris by some of his French team-mates and offered a cryptic response.

“I have a year left on the contract, everyone knows that,” he said. “There have been no concrete extension proposals. I am still a Manchester United player.

“Contacts with PSG? I have an agent that deals with all that. I don’t have Al-Khelaifi’s number”.

His comments come despite him suggesting recently that he wanted to lead United to title glory following their second place finish.

“Maybe the next step is to stay and play in one position, to help my team to win the Premier League,” he told BT Sport .

“That’s the next step, that’s what I’m saying. Everything is possible. If you don’t believe, then there’s no point in playing.”
